KURT’S MATCH!
The fast-paced matching game from Hintertux

Game contents: 55 playing cards with 8 symbols on each card

How it works: Each card features 8 different symbols from Hintertux waiting to be discovered. No matter which two cards you compare, there is always exactly one symbol that appears on both cards. KURT’S MATCH! can be played in several different ways. You’ll find the game variations below. The aim is always the same: Be the first to spot the matching symbol between two cards. Before you start: Shuffle the cards well. A match counts as soon as the matching symbol has been clearly named or pointed out. Younger children can simply point to the matching symbol.

Game Variations

Game 1 – Get Rid of the Cards!

For 2 to 8 players

Place one card face up in the centre of the table. Deal the remaining cards as evenly as possible between all players, face down. Set any leftover cards aside.

Everyone turns over the top card of their own pile at the same time. Now look for the matching symbol between your face-up card and the card in the centre.

The first player to spot the matching symbol calls it out and places their card on top of the card in the centre. This immediately creates a new card to match.

All other face-up cards stay where they are and are now compared with the new card in the centre.

The first player to get rid of all their cards wins.

Game 2 – Kurt’s Collecting Fun

For 2 to 8 players

Each player receives one card and places it face up in front of them. Place the remaining cards face down in a pile in the centre of the table. Turn over the top card.

Everyone now looks for the matching symbol between the card in the centre and their own face-up card.

The first player to correctly name the matching symbol takes the card from the centre and places it face up on top of their own pile. This card now becomes that player’s new card to match.

Then turn over the next card from the centre pile.

When the pile is empty, the player who has collected the most cards wins.

Game 3 – The Card Carousel

For 2 to 8 players

This version is a little trickier – you’ll need to keep an eye on several cards at once!

Deal all the cards as evenly as possible, face down. Each player turns over their top card and places it clearly visible in front of them.

Everyone now searches at the same time for a matching symbol between their own face-up card and any other player’s face-up card.

When you spot a match, call out the symbol and place your own card on top of that player’s face-up pile. Their top card has now changed – and the search immediately begins again.

You may only play the top card from your own pile.

The first player with no cards left wins.

Game 4 – Kurt Against the Clock

Play on your own or as a team

Place one card face up in front of you. The remaining cards form a face-down pile.

Turn over the top card and look for the matching symbol between the two cards. As soon as you spot and name it, place the new card on top of the face-up card. Then turn over the next card.

Choose your challenge:

How many cards can you complete in one minute?
How quickly can you get through the whole pile?
Can you complete all the cards without making a mistake?

Next time, try to beat your own record!

Game 5 – Eight Symbols, One Story

The perfect game for the journey home

Take turns choosing any card and look at the 8 symbols on it.

Now take turns making up a story that includes all 8 symbols on the card. You can use the symbols in any order, but each one should play a recognisable part in your story.

Your story can be funny, exciting, crazy or even a little impossible.

More ways to play:

The Short Story:
Each player tells their own story using all 8 symbols.

The Shared Story:
One person starts the story using one symbol. The next person continues the story using another symbol, and so on until all 8 symbols have been included.

The Crazy Challenge:
The other players decide the order in which the 8 symbols must appear in the story.

The Holiday Story:
The story must begin or end at the Hintertuxerhof.

For Younger Children

Younger children can play without any time pressure. Simply place two cards face up next to each other and look for the matching symbol together.

You can also name or count the symbols, or use them to make up little sentences and stories.
