After the Christmas holidays on the ski slopes. A wonderful time for a winter vacation. Well-groomed slopes and 100% guaranteed snow in our Tuxertal. The traditional Perchten day on January 5th

Who is on the way in the Tuxertal on January 5th may wonder what funny characters are on the way. The Perchten – an ancient tradition in our valley that is still lived by big and small today. During the day, the children move from house to house as „Binggalpechtn“ or „Krapfenpechtn“ and collect sweets, in the evening the adults slip into Perchten clothing and roam the village as „Schnapspechtn“, the visit is rewarded with several schnapps. At midnight it’s time to unmask. In the old days, these were poor people who, hooded and with a basket (Binkl), went to beg. With a disguised voice they wished the locals „A glickselig’s nois Johr“ (Happy New Year) and got money or food for it.
